Made from sterling silver, this Hamsa pendant is designed by HaAri, an Israeli jewelry studio specializing in Kabbalah jewelry. Inspired by the teachings of the Kabbalah, Kabbalah jewelry accessories feature spiritual keys that are meant to promote positive changes in various aspects of life.

The Kabbalah discusses the possible influences of the evil eye on our lives. And so, many Kabbalah inspired pieces include powerful protection motifs that fight off negative energies.

This handmade Hamsa pendant includes several Kabbalsit protection motifs:

Hamsa Hand – The first and obvious motif is the Hamsa hand. In the Kabbalah the Hamsa hand is believed to represent the five books of the Torah. The Hamsa is also a common motif in Israeli art and culture. Kabbalah jewelry designers have adapted that famous symbol that can be seen on numerous pieces. In this extraordinary piece, the Hamsa is designed in a classical ethnic style.

The five metals formula – this motif is related to the way the piece is made. The five metals is an ancient Kabbalist formula. According to instructions the piece is made by the blending of the five metals: gold, silver, copper, tin and lead. This blending is believed to draw on powerful energies . The creation of this amulet depends on the specific time in which the piece is made: five metals jewelry can be produced only once a month when Jupiter rules the Moon.

The 72 Names of God- The Kabbalah uses the 72 Names of God to promote changes in various aspects of life such as success, fertility, love and health. Each three letters signify one of God’s names holding great potency. Thus, many men and women wear different kinds of Kabbalah Jewelry pieces that are inscribed with one or more of these names.

This Hamsa pendant is inscribed with two of the 72 Names:

Aleph-Lamed-Dalet – this Hebrew sequence is used by the Kabbalah to ward off the evil eye.

Mem-Heh-Shin – this combination is believed to enhance health and cure.

This Hamsa pendant is a beautiful talisman for health and protection. You can find this Hamsa pendant at Judaica 7 .

This beautiful evil eye necklace features three protection motifs: the Hamsa hand, three fish and an eye. All three motifs are used to ward off the negative influence of the evil eye. Evil Eye necklace of this kind is usually worn as a talisman for protection and blessings.

Let us now see what the symbols of this beautiful evil eye necklace actually mean.

Hamsa hand in evil eye necklace

Indeed, the Hamsa hand is a very common feature in an evil eye necklace. The Hamsa, an ancient amulet with Middle Eastern origins, can be seen adorning necklaces, bracelets, cell phone charms, art, and homes worldwide. Hamsa, the Arabic word for “five,” has a deep symbolic meaning in both the Jewish and Islamic faiths. The Hamsa hand is comprised of five fingers said to represent the Hand of God. The number five refers to the five books of the Torah in the Jewish tradition as well as “Heh,” which is the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. In Islam, the number five portrays the Sunni’s Five Pillars of Islam and the Shi’ite’s Five People of the Cloak.

The Hamsa hand carries protective properties to ward off the evil eye and bring good luck, peace, happiness, and good health to its owner. The five-fingered Hamsa hand features two symmetrical thumbs on either side. Some Hamsa hands feature an eye, which is a talisman to protect against the evil eye.

Origins of the Hamsa hand

While the Hamsa hand has seen an increase in popularity thanks to a revived interest in Kabbalah and mystical Judaism, the symbol first appeared thousands of years ago. The open-hand symbol has been found in Mesopotamian artifacts. According to archaeologists, the actual Hamsa hand is thought to have originated in Carthage with the supreme deity Tanit, who used the hand to provide protection against the evil eye. The Hamsa hand tends to be associated with a female deity who offers safety and security from misfortune.
The Hamsa hand’s role in religion

As Islam evolved, the Hamsa hand became known as the Hand of Fatima, after Fatima Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. In addition, the number five often symbolizes the five senses, marriage, and the five daily prayers.

The Hamsa hand eventually became an important symbol in Judaism. Jewish people refer to the Hamsa as the Hand of Miriam, who is the sister of Moses and Aaron. The Hamsa hand is said to remind those of the Jewish faith to praise God using their five senses. It also represents the protective hand of God.

While the Hamsa hand has ties to the Jewish and Islamic traditions, it’s not a religious symbol. It is instead a universal good luck charm that possesses the power to ward off the evil eye. The Hamsa hand carries rich folklore and deep meaning. It has been adopted worldwide by those seeking luck and good fortune.

Eye motif in evil eye necklace designs

The eye motif is also often seen in evil eye jewelry. The eye, just like the Hamsa, is associated with Fatima. There is an interesting story behind that name. According to folklore, Fatima was stirring hot milk when her husband Ali suddenly entered the room in with another woman. Fatima was so overwhelmed that her spoon fell into the boiling stew. Without noticing, Fatima kept on stirring using her own hand. Thus, the hand of Fatima has turned thus into a symbol of faith and tolerance. The eye that is often incorporated in Hamsa designs stands for the tear that Fatima shed.

And fish…fish – Why fish??

You have probably seen many evil eye necklace designs featuring fish and wondered why that is. What do fish have to do with protection? Since fish live in the water and are out of sight, they are considered protected from the envious stare.

A Hamsa necklace will often feature traditional motifs from the Kabbalah’s teachings. The Kabbalah , a Jewish school of thought, uses various motifs that are believed to ward off the evil eye and provide blessing and protection. Many Kabbalah jewelry accessories include prominent protection motifs such as the Hamsa hand and the Jewish star of David. Another famous motif is the red string. Red string is usually worn on the left wrist as protection from the evil eye but it also features a large number of Kabbalah and Hamsa necklaces.

Hamsa Necklace with Hebrew inscriptions

Another spiritual tool the Kabbalah uses is Hebrew inscriptions that come from holy sources such as the bible and Kabbalist test. If you take a look at Hebrew jewelry that is inspired by the teaching of the Kabbalah you are likely to find the Hebrew blessing Ben Porat Yosef inscribed on them.

Ben Porat Yosef Five Hamsas , sold at Original Kabbalah Jewelry Online

This Hamsa necklace is a great example. The piece consists of five hanging hamsas, each engraved with a Hebrew blessing. One of these blessings is the phrase “Ben Porat Yosef Alei Ayne”.

Ben Porat Yosef Alei Ayne is taken from Jacob’s blessing, described in the book of Genesis. When Jacob blesses his youngest son Yosef (Joseph), he calls him Ben Porat Yoseph, which means a fruitful son. In Jewish tradition Joseph is considered a righteous man and so it has become a custom to use his name as a virtue for blessing and protection.

Another of the charm in this unique Hamsa necklace is inscribed with the Hebrew blessing Birkat HaKohanim. It is a very powerful blessing taken out from the book of Exodus. Birkat Kohanim necklace is considered a very powerful protective talisman. Birkat Hakohanim also known as the Priestly blessing, is a powerful blessing that can only recited by the Kohens, who are decedents of Aaron and his sons. The Kohens were the high priests in the Sinai desert.

The Hamsa hand is a cultural motif that represents blessing and strength. Due to its special shape it is generally believed to deflect the evil eye. In Islamic tradition, the Hasma hand (or the hand of Fatima) represents the hand of God, divine power, generosity, and providence. The Hasma hand is one of the most common components in the silver and gold jewelry in the Islamic region. The image of the Hasma hand is sometimes painted on house walls in red, to represent blood, for protection.

In archaeological diggings, it was found that the Hamsa hand originated with the Phoenicians. They used the hasma hand as a protection symbol for an ancient Middle Eastern goddess. The Hamsa hand has always been a symbol for a female entity that offers protection from evil and misfortune.

The word Hamsa means five. There Hamsa hand has five digits, but five also has additional meaning in the Islamic and Jewish traditions.

The Meaning of Hamsa Hand in Judaism

For Judaism, five represents the five books of the Torah. Five also represents the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, Heh. Heh is used to symbolize one of God’s holy names. The Jewish Hamsa hand symbolizes the Hand of God. Some Jewish people believe the Hamsa hand pendant represents the Hand of Miriam. Miriam is the sister of Moses and Aaron. It is also known as the Hand of Miriam or Hamesh hand. Many Jewish people think that the Hamsa hand’s five fingers remind the wearer that they need to use their five senses to praise God.

In Kabbalah, the hamsa hand is believed to fight off the evil eye and negative energy. The evil eye refers to the belief that any envious stares may bring bad luck and misfortune. The Kabbalah believes very much in the destructive effects of the evil eye and that it is an obstacle in fulfilling your dreams and wishes. Hamsa hands fight this evil eye in Kabbalah and Judaism.

The Hamsa Hand in Islam

For Islam, five represents the Five Pillars of Islam for the Sunnis faith. For the Shi’ites, five represents the Five People of the Cloak. The Hasma hand is known the Hand of Fatima. Fatima was the daughter of Mohamed the prophet of Islam who is thought to have had healing healing powers. The Hand of Fatima, like in Jewish tradition, is used to protect from misfortune and bad luck but is by no means considered a religious symbol.

The Hand of Fatima is often seen on entrance doors.

google_ad_height = 250;
// ]]>

The Hand of Fatima, or hamsa, with five extending digits, is believed to guard people and buildings from bad luck. This example was found in Provence France, but in all Mediterranean countries, and particularly coastal regions, have an abundance of these brass door knockers.

When wearing the Hamsa hand, you will be protected from the evil eye and receive happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. The fingers can be worn either facing up or down as both bring the owner happiness, peace, and prosperity. The renewed popularity in Kabbalah and mystical Judaism has brought jewelry with the hasma hand more popularity as well.

This beautiful beaded Hamsa necklace has recently caught my eyes. Hamsa necklace is usually worn not just as a fashion statement but as a good luck charm that can be carried anywhere we go. We over the years have used everything imaginable for good luck charms. For many it is something special and specific to that certain person. A certain something that holds meaning to them and they feel will bring them luck. For others it may be an item which has been used or proven somewhere to provide luck to those that use it. Regardless of the reasons, one can never have too much luck, so many of us do rely on good old lucky charms.

Let’s look for example at the Hamsa hand . In Arabic this word means “five” also the five fingers of the hand. This is a prominent and widely used Jewish motif that can be found almost anywhere. Its strength is to give protection and ward off the evil eye. It is believed that for those that display it in their home or wear it they will then have luck and protection. One of the most popular ways for a Hamsa to be displayed is in a Hamsa necklace.

A Hamsa necklace is a wonderful piece of jewelry to have. There are many variations to the type of necklace that you choose. The Hamsa design can be in the two thumbed form or the more natural 1 thumb version. Either way with a Hamsa necklace you can always carry with you the luck and the protection that this symbol is proven to provide. The popularity of this good luck charm is evident as you can buy almost anything designed with the Hamsa.

Beaded Hamsa Necklace in blue

This unique beaded Hamsa neklace is designed by renowned Danon studio, operated by several Israeli artist who have created a stunning collection of handmade Jewish jewelry, luck charms and Judaica. All items are made in Israel. Find more details at Judaica 7 – Necklaces Products

It would be so easy to give everyone you know the gift of luck and protection. Hamsas are designed and created into almost everything. There are key rings, wall plagues, pictures, bracelets, earrings, rings, cuff-links and stained glass to name a few. The key here is that the Hamsa itself provides you with luck and protection from the evil eye. Yet they are designed in to fashionable accessories for yourself and your home. So whatever you wear or whatever you do or wherever you go you can be protected. Everybody needs a little bit of luck, some more than others, why not be fashionable at the same time. The color blue is said to be one that provides protection from the evil eye and you will find many of the Hamsas in blue.

Whether it is for yourself or someone you love the idea of a good luck charm is never a bad idea. A Hamsa necklace would be a wonderful gift to give someone to show them you want them to be protected and provided with good luck as well.

Also referred to as the Hand of Miriam, in Jewish tradition, the Hamsa hand is associated with the Biblical figure Miriam. This beautiful diamond Hamsa necklace is made of rose gold and set with pave diamonds. Pave diamonds are extremely popular in designed diamond jewelry including round diamond rings, bracelets and necklaces. The piece also offered in other colors but this version is my favorite.

Hamsa necklace is often worn as a luck charm, especially among Jewish people. In Jewish tradition the Hamsa hand is known by other names. Since it is believed to provide protection, it is also referred to as the protective hand of God. The name Hamsa is in fact Semitic, meaning five in Arabic. Jewish people often recognize the Hamsa as Chamesh hand, which also means five in Hebrew. Many Jewish thinkers see the five fingers of the Hamesh hand as representing the five books of the Torah. Yet, another alternative name of the Hamsa hand in Jewish tradition is the hand of Miriam. Who is the biblical Miriam? you might ask.

Miriam is a prominent figure in the Torah. The sister of Moses and Aaron, Miriam took an active role in the story of Exodus. In the image, “And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.” (Exodus 15:20).

A horseshoe pendant is a popular design in the niche of evil eye jewelry. Horseshoe has always been used an a protective amulet. Just like the Hamsa hand, horseshoe is believed to ward off the negative influences of the Evil Eye. The use of the horseshoe as a talisman can be traced back into centuries ago. Shaped as a U, the horseshoe resembles the symmetric shape of the Hamsa hand. These structures are believed to draw positive energies and so can provide the bearer with good luck and blessing. In many places around the world horseshoes are hung at the gates and on living room walls. The symbol of the horseshoe has also entered the world of fashion. Today, evil eye necklaces will often include the horseshoe motif.

Horseshoe Pendant

Horseshoe pendants and necklaces are worn just like Hamsa necklaces, as a protection amulets that are also fashionable. It is definitely interesting to observe the current fashion trends in which ancient amulets such as the Hamsa hand, horseshoe and Star of David are incorporated in modern designs. This necklace features three lucky charms: horseshoe, hamsa hand and an energetic Citrine stone. This unique evil eye necklace is designed by an Israeli jewelry studio, MIZZE Jewelry- Made for Luck. You can find out more details at Handmade Amulets Online!

The direction of the horseshoe

According to common belief, the way the horseshoe hangs is significant. When horseshoe is hung upwards is it believed to restore all positive energies, otherwise released to the surroundings. Others go further and say horseshoe pointing down is is bad luck since all good luck is lost.

This delicate Hamsa pendant comes from one of my personal favorite design studios – MIZZE – Made For Luck. MIZZE Jewelry is an independent studio who specializes in handcrafted charm necklaces and bracelets.

Based in Israel, MIZZE – Made for Luck is an Israeli jewelry studio that now enjoys a worldwide recognition. Just in case you wondered, MIZZE means “who is it?” in Hebrew (Pronounced: mi-zÄ ).

MIZZE Jewelry specializes in a designer line of jewelry created to remind us that we need balance in our lives. Traditional workmanship is brought together with ancient luck charms to create a contemporary masterpiece that can be worn for any occasion. MIZZE Jewelry’s collection includes a wide array of handmade bracelets, necklaces and anklets, most of which are designed as luck and protection amulet. MIZZE Jewelry has also created a line of adorable baby pins featuring luck charms.

Hamsa pendant with Cz stones

This specific design includes a beautiful Hamsa hand and the eye motif in the middle for protection and good luck. So what’s the story with the eye, you might ask yourself…The image of an eye is a very common feature in Hamsa jewelry accessories. A traditional symbol against the evil eye it is believed to refer to Fatima, wife of Mohamed, the prophet of Islam. This combination makes a powerful protection charm against negative energies.

This Hamsa pendant is very eye catching and goes well with anything you wear – I assure you it is even more striking in person (since I own it myself). The Hamsa pendant is made of 925 sterling silver and CZ stones.
